What to expect

1 Connection

Life is better together.
Alpha brings together people from all walks of life who are curious about faith.
Each session starts with some time to eat, relax and get to know your group.

2 Content
Each session  covers a different topic of faith, either in a short talk of video.
The Alpha episodes are designed to engage and inspire conversation.  About 30min long, the videos explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as 'Who is Jesus, How can we have faith, and How does God guide us?'

3 Conversation
The last part of an Alpha is a chance to share your thoughts on the session's topic and discuss it in your small groups.
It is an open and welcoming environment, no matter what your opinion.
There is no pressure to say anything, but the floor is yours if you do want to.

When is it?

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the area, or have lived here all your life - we hope the website helps you find out what you want to know about Burpham Church
Key info about the church...

When & where does the church meet?

The Intergenerational service is an informal gathering every Sunday at 10:45am for 60-70 mins.

There is an earlier more traditional Common Worship Service (with Holy Communion and hymns) at 9:15am.

Coffee and refreshments are served at 10:15am in the middle of the services and are an opportunity for fellowship: to chat between our two services.

We meet at Burpham Church which is set back on New Inn Lane, Burpham, Guildford, GU4 7HW (not great with sat navs!) Tel 01483 825533

There is a small amount of parking available on the site but there is ample additional parking on Coniers Way just past the church. Many (who are able) love to walk to us.

What to expect when I visit the church

When you arrive, you will find yourself in the foyer. It may have many people there either just arriving like you or about to head out. Please know we are friendly and informal, with a longing to make you feel at ease.

The first service is more traditional service with communion and hymns, all guided by service books and hymn books.

Our second service has music with a band, led from the screen and an accessible and relevant talk from the bible. We love sharing stories of what God is doing - either by interviews or offering an opportunity for those to share. Please don't worry - we won't come and ask anyone new, but do expect the joy of learning from many voices.

You do not need to believe in God to come here. We are very family friendly, and love children being here, and in a natural relaxed environment. There is a box of toys available in the church near the back. There are children's groups for ages 4-11 with trained and DBS-checked leaders on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. On other Sundays, we are all in together learning deeply from one another with all-age content and challenge.

What happens to the Children at church?

We have a fantastic Sunday Club for the kids at church for ages 4-11. Children stay with their parents at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs!) together for the first part of the service. The leader will make it clear where and when children need to go to their programme. You will need to register them, but they can stay and you remain in the service.
Children can expect to have fun playing games, and learning about God in an exciting way. We love learning from the children about what God is saying to them.

Is there a dress code?

No, just wear something comfortable!

Will I be made to feel uncomfortable?

Not at all!
We will be welcoming and you will not be forced to do anything you are not comfortable doing. We want you to feel right at home and enjoy the service. We hope we will explain as we go, but please don't worry about asking someone - or being guided by one of the team.
