Church of The Holy Spirit

The outside

of this, our more modern building is, at the moment, in need of refurbishment and this is still being planned as part of our improvement programme. But, as the result of the fire in 2012 priority was given to much needed improvements to the church interior that were carried out at the same time as the fire damage restoration.

What goes on inside

Here and, in the refurbished centre alongside, there are different Sunday services, plus activities (on Sunday and in the week) for children and older young people, families and adults.

Check our pages for children, for youth (over 11 years) and adults and for more information about our
Sunday and other services.

Church of The Holy Spirit (CHS) (New Inn Lane GU4 7HW)

Is where most of our services and other activities take place.

Refurbishment

One phase of our refurbishing work, including the main hall, has been completed.

We had planned to start more work to complete the building which will then better enable us to serve our local community but these plans were changed as fire damage restoration work (in autumn 2013) presented an opportunity, at the same time, to make important improvements to the church interior at the same time.

A picture of the long-term proposal for the new frontage is shown below.

Hire our Centre and other facilities

Our refurbished Centre (large hall) and church buildings can be hired for Private functions

See hire our hall for more information and pictures of our hall.

More about the fire at CHS

In May 2012 there was a break-in and an arson attack when a fire was lit inside the church itself.

A very considerable amount of damage resulted, from the smoke and water used to extinguish the fire.

Restoration work was completed in late November 2013 and, at the same time the opportunity was taken to carry out essential re-wiring and insulation work as well as the building of a new entrance and a much needed church office. Some photographs of the work are shown on our CHS Restoration page

Caterpillar Café

One of the sad results of the fire was that the popular Friday morning ‘Caterpillar Café’ that took place in the church could not meet meet as the building was not in a good enough condition to enable this parents’ and toddlers’ group to meet.

Following the repairs it is hoped that Caterpillar Café will re-start early in 2014.

The Vision

We want the

Church of The Holy Spirit

to be :

•  A place where children and adults can learn, play and grow in faith together in a light, attractive and child-friendly space.

•  A place where older people can have easy access and comfortable surroundings to meet one another in fellowship.

•  A place with properly

equipped resources so that groups can meet, and learn and grow together in understanding.

•  A place where the church family can enjoy meeting and eating together, and welcome those who are coming into the life of the church.
